The Home Affairs Department (HAD) has opened 18 temporary cold shelters across Hong Kong on Saturday (January 10) to provide relief for people affected by the

ongoing cold weather.

The shelters, located in various districts on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, will remain in operation for as long as the Cold Weather Warning is in force.

Shelter users will be offered clean mattresses, blankets or quilts, as well as hot meals and hot water, all free of charge. The department said the facilities are designed to provide a warm, safe and quiet resting environment for those in need during periods of low temperatures.

To maintain order and minimise disturbance to users, members of the public or organisations wishing to donate items are required to register with shelter staff upon arrival. Donated goods should be placed at designated indoor areas, after which staff will inform shelter users to collect the items themselves.

Members of the public seeking temporary refuge, or those with enquiries about donation arrangements, can contact the Home Affairs Department hotline at 2572 8427 for further information.
